For Sale By Owner Transactions Remain at Record Lows
December 16th, 2007 3:41 PM

According to a National Association of Realtors 2007 survey of buyers and sellers only 12% of transactions were for sale by owner.  The NAR also reports that the percentage of homes sold without professionial representation has continued to decline since 1997.  The survey also reflected that 4 out of 10 "for sale by owner" properties were not placed on the open market and were between family members or acquaintances.  It was further noted that a Realtor can help sellers thru marketing services such as multiple listing service and major web-marketing avenues such as Realtor.com.  Even though there are sites that cater to unrepresented sellers, their total listings are in the tens of thousands where there are more than 3 million homes listed on the NAR's consumer Web site, Realtor.com.
